The Fairy Pools, Isle of Skye

The Fairy Pools are beautiful rock pools of crystal clear spring water fed by a series of waterfalls from the Cuillin Mountains.

These famous pools entice visitors from all over the world, as they make some great ‘Wild Swimming’ for those brave enough to enter the cold water. For the less adventurous these magical Fairy Pools make some fantastic photos.

The walk to the pools uses the same route there and back. The complete return distance to the first main waterfall and pool is 2.4km, with the average time to complete the walk being 40 minutes (with no stops). Most people will spend some time working their way up the river from the first waterfall exploring the different pools.

The drive to the Fairy Pools was very nice and the walk to the pools was relatively easy. The pools themselves were magical. It is a very special place and although it is now very busy with tourists, you can still feel the atmosphere surrounding the pools and the wilderness. Gorgeous place.

The photos don’t do it justice. There is such peace and beauty there that goes on forever. Yes, it’s a hike and it’s in nature, so you might find it strenuous, dirty, and wet, but that is what nature is! Yes, there are lots of tourists there but if you can deal with that, you will love it!

Our tip: go there at first light of the day and enjoy the place for yourself!
